    • WhoSampled

WhoSampled gives the students access most samples that musicians have created.  A sample is where an artist borrows a piece of someone else's song to use in their own.  The sample can be a large part/iconic part of a song (Under Pressure---> Ice Ice Baby) or a subtle piece.  This site is useful for learning about artist's influences and music history.  It is also good for learning how to manipulate songs to create another piece of music.

    • Spotify

Spotify is a downloadable application that students can access to listen to almost any music album that has been released.  They can search by any category and can follow various artists.  Options for other similar artists you may like and new releases for followed artists are given by email and on the website.  Spotify does not allow downloading of music, but does allow students to sample music that they may not be familiar with and listen to familiar music.

    • YouTube

YouTube gives students access to most videos from the music of the past and the present.  The students can create their own playlists to keep track of videos that they like, as well as follow other users who have created playlists and accounts.  Mr. Buffa has numerous playlists that are used in his music class and keep records of important historical events in music history.

    • Virtual Drumming

On VirtualDrumming.com students can learn how a drum-set is put together and how each piece sounds.  The students can play each drum part with the keys on the computer keyboard.  The drum-sets can also be changed based on musical genre.

    • Billboard Music Charts

The Billboard music charts give students access to information and rankings of the popular music in America.  Each week the charts are updated based on record sales, downloads and radio play, which the students can stay current with what music is popular.  The Billboard charts also give access to past records, going as far back as the 1960's.  There are charts that incorporate every style of music as well, including Latin, Country, Dance, Christian, Ring-tones, etc.
