    2022-2023 ESL (English as a Second Language) Class Syllabus

    Course Description: 
     
    This course is designed to improve students' accuracy in using English in classroom situations and to help them understand the changing world around them. Students will study and interpret a range of texts and produce a variety of forms of writing. Activities will also help students to develop their oral presentation skills and acquire study skills(including note-taking and summarizing skills) that will enhance their ability to learn in all subjects. This course is also focused on promoting the student's intellectual growth and critical thinking skills necessary for success in a grade-level classroom.  

     

     

    CLASS RULES

    1. Respect others, yourself, and the teacher all the time.
    2. Use polite and appropriate language. There will be no swearing, hitting, or rudeness in our classroom.
    3. Do not eat, chew gum, drink beverages, or wear a hat/earphones in our classroom.

    GRADING:

    Grades will consist of classwork, class attitude, tests & quizzes, projects & presentations, and homework. The final average for the marking period is determined by dividing the earned points by the attempted points.

    LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY:

    If you submit an assignment after the due date without having made arrangements with me, a minimum of 10% of the total points will be deducted for each day.

    ATTENDANCE:

    The school attendance policy is strictly enforced in this class.  A total of 16 unexcused absences in a year will result in a grade of 55 at the lowest. 

    Makeup Policy:

    If you are absent from class for any reason, you must make up missed work.
